Build the Internet of Things!
What if your kettle knew you were heading home and switched on just before you arrived? What if you could feed your dogs while travelling simply by tweeting? What if taps in rural areas could monitor and control the quality of water as it comes out of the taps? All these and more are possible and within reach of hobbyists of all ages and levels. The Internet of Things (IoT) ESP8266 is a sub-$5 chip that has wifi, GPIOs, a speedy CPU and ample storage. It is also Arduino-compatible, so you can plug right into the Arduino ecosystem.
