Join us for our most popular workshop: beginners knife making class on Thursday, the 8 October 2020.
We will maintain social distancing during our workshop, everyone at the space will be expected to wear masks/ face shields at all times and there will be sanitizers at each station. We will provide a face shield for you to wear, made out of recycled plastic which you will be able to take home with you.
There are only 8 spots available, so be sure to secure your spot ASAP!
This class is where you will learn some basic blacksmith skills as well as learning about recycled plastic and composites in creating your own knife handle.
Go home with your very own hand made custom bush knife! Suitable for children over 13 only when accompanied by an adult.
The knife blanks are laser cut from N690 a high performance Stainless Steel developed but Bohler Austria for knife making. The steel can be hardened to 60HRC. We will teach you how to mould your own handle using recycled plastic bottle caps in our plasticprenur studio as part of the Baobab project. We welcome you to bring your own assortment of plastic bottle caps (HDPE recycling number 2). You will be able to shred them and melt them before injecting them into the mould around your newly shaped knife blank. You will need about 26 bottle caps to make a complete handle, and the more interesting your colour mix the better. If you haven’t been able to find your own, we have a wide array of shredded plastic you can use.
We are also offering personalized etching to be done to your blade, please could you email your artwork by the Friday morning, the etch must fit inside 30x14mm and it will need to be a high quality black and white image JPEG or png.
Please note our class will start at 17:00 and we will aim to be finished by 21:00, just in time for the curfew.
We look forward to seeing you there!
