Welcome to: make your own Chair
The methods we are looking at to make your chair, will cut them from wood on a flat plane. There are 2 methods of software we are going to look at using. In the end they will produce a vector file. You may need to read more about vectors.
METHOD 1 (recommended):
Model your chair in 3D and use 123D make to slice it. If you don’t already have 3D modeling software you should download some free software (look at our software for makers page)
Use your 3D modeling software to create a chair and export as STL format (make sure the file name has no spaces or special characters)
Import into 123D make (you can do this online or download the app to your computer)
Choose the slicing options that suit your design, think about how strong you think the chair would be (i think the chair on the top left of this page will break unless those legs are re-inforced)
save the cutting files in DXF or PDF (if you cant save as DXF),
send the file to the laser cutter, and cut.
Assemble and sit!
METHOD 2 (worth looking at) :
Figure out how to use Sketchchair (good luck: here are a few resources we could find: video tutorial with no audio, existing models)
save the cutting files in DXF or PDF (if you cant save as DXF),
send the file to the laser cutter, and cut.
Assemble and sit!
