Out The Box Productions commissioned The Makerspace in Durban to design and make Three custom Recycled trophies for the Unilever Partner with Purpose Summit 2023.
The trophies were designed by Sam Shezi, Siya Madonsela and Steve Gray.
Each Trophy is constructed entirely from recycled and reclaimed materials. There are three layers of material. A piece of Recycled HPDE Plastic sandwiched between a thick piece of Himalayan Cyprus and a piece of French Oak.
The Himalayan Cypress wood was donated The Makerspace circa 2015, by a young designer Jonti Richardson.
The Blue and White HDPE plastic was sourced from post-consumer waste consisting of White Milk bottles and blue bottle lids from various sources. The waste was collected and processed by Siya as part of his work with the Sustainable Product Solutions company, that designs and develops sustainable products from waste materials.
The French Oak wood was donated by Rohan Goldswain circa 2016, a former Durban woodworker now working out of Cape Town.
Trophies are assembled with screws salvaged from old furniture and fittings.
